Writing Contest!

Hawk and Young have created their first ever writing contest!

https://hawkandyoung.com/scifi-fantasy-alien-life-flash-fiction-contest/

Hawk and Young are seeking tales of alien life bent on conquest. This can be scifi or fantasy, or a mix of the two. Where did they come from? What do they want? We like underdog heroes, strong character development, vivid settings and a good twist at the end.

EVERY ENTRY WILL RECEIVE A WRITTEN REVIEW!! We will write you a personal review of your contest entry.

Enter by June 15th

Many times when you enter a contest, you get a rejection letter that simply states that your piece was enjoyable, but not what they are looking for at this time. That is not helpful at all. You cannot know for that response how close you were to winning, what you did wrong and need to correct, or what you did right and should not change.

Having the opportunity to get a review of your piece, someone to tell you what you did right and what you need to work on, is invaluable!

While the steps involved here are separate and require some additional work on the part of the writer, for the cost of a coffee, you can get the feedback you deserve, plus, if you write well, you could win a gift card and get yourself promoted on their website. That gives you credibility.

Hawk and Young also offer promotions and author interviews. That's publicity.

Credibility and Publicity.

You should do it just for that!

Critique Circle

I wanted to take a moment to talk up a great website called Critique Circle.

http://cdn.makeuseof.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/critique-website-critiquecircle.png?x92042

It's where authors submit their works in progress for review and critique. In order to submit you have to critique other works. This site is monitored for trolls, those that don't play by the rules. I have not had any instances where I've gotten a critique that wasn't honest.

Critiques are best when they are detailed. If you leave a critique explain why you liked or didn't like a part. Be nice and use academic speech. Don't just leave positive, happy face, remarks all over because no one learns anything that way.

Join. There are thousands of members and they are all aspiring and even published authors, so they take things seriously. You get great feedback on your work. You are not alone in writing!

I've Been Reading More Alice..

In keeping up with the Alice in Wonderland theme, I've been reading a series by Frank Beddor.
This trilogy is called the Looking Glass Wars.

In it, Alyss Heart comes to reign, but is thwarted by Redd. There is a war. The top soldier for Alyss is Hatter Matigan. The top soldier for Redd is The Cat, who is half cat and half Wonderlander.

This series is full of action and adventure. The characters are intriguing and totally re-imagined.
It does get a bit chaotic at times. In Arch Enemy, each chapter jumps from character point of view to character point of view. This is fine since they are all over the map geographically and many things are going on in each of their heads. When you put a book down and go back later to pick it up, it is hard to remember what is going on when you begin with a different character each time. Not that this is a bad thing, because I've written and read many things this way, but that it can be jarring.

Frank goes on to write a graphic novel series around this warrior Hatter.

I'd love to get my hands on these, but they are hard to find. Go Amazon! Now you know one thing to get me for Christmas.

Or these...
And yes, I know these are from the 1st movie.

These are from the second..
But of these, I really only would like the rabbit. I like the costumes more in the first set.

Hee.

Kindle version FREE for a limited time!

Beginning June 22, 2015, there will be a 5-day FREE download of Abandoned in Cocal.

This is for Kindle only.

The paperback version has a different cover, due to the channels used to produce it. Hey, I'm new to this! I'll get it right next time.

Please read it and leave me a review on Amazon. Ideally, since the paperback version has a different page, it would be awesome for you to post your review on that page as well. Copy/paste and submit. Pretty Please?

I know that is asking a lot, but I guess I'm greedy.
