My favorite micro-fiction website went down. My micro-fiction family have had to migrate over to a new site called Ficlatté.
It is still a newborn site with many areas still undeveloped, but it functions the same way as Ficly did. Writers jot down a story in 1,024 characters, title it, tag it, and hit submit. Other writers read it, comment on it, rate it, and create sequels or prequels.
This style of writing encourages picking your words carefully to fit an entire idea into a small space, and writing in the middle of the action to hook your reader and leave them wanting more. Sometimes a story can fit into one neat micro-fiction package. Sometimes they go on for several threads.
The best part is that other people can sequel or prequel your work, spinning it in a new direction you hadn't thought of. You inspire them to add to your story, and they take your story to new heights, opening up your imagination.
When you sequel, you can continue with their protagonist, or write from the perspective of your own, adding a layer of depth to the story. Multiple characters can tell the tale. You can end up working with several people.
Many threads can spin off of your story, venturing into separate genres, styles, and endings. Stories don't have to be linear.
As the site develops, new features will become available. If you are a programmer and want to help, contact the creator and I'm sure he will welcome new ideas and codes.
Go check it out!

I've never heard of Ficlatté before. It sounds like an interesting and useful site for writers. Thanks for sharing!
