Prologue

JoAnn saw Mitch in the back of the Piggly Wiggly. It was her chance. She stole around the corner and surprised him. “Mitch!” she hissed. “I have something to tell you.”

It had been two months since the end of year party at Janice's house where things had become a bit muddled after a few beers. She remembered kissing Mitch fervently, ecstatic that he noticed her and seemed very interested in her. She remembered how hot and sweaty she felt before removing her clothes. And she remembered waking up before dawn, vomiting, and wondering where her clothes went. Mitch was in the bed asleep and this time when she looked at him, he wasn't the dreamy, desirable boy she thought he was.

“Make it quick, Danielle is waiting on me,” he hissed back, annoyed that this one-night-stand was haunting him.

“I think I'm pregnant.”

“What?”

“It's yours Mitch.”

Mitch's eyes dilated as the words formed in his head and angered him. He grabbed her by the shoulders roughly, pushing her to the wall. “Get rid of it! If you tell anyone, ANYONE, about this, I will never let you live it down!”

JoAnn couldn't wriggle free of his grip. He was strong, much stronger that she was, and she knew he could beat her if he really wanted to. Her eyes were wide with fear as she nodded and was let go. He ducked into the restroom, and she made a hasty exit, heart pounding in her ears.
